I Originally created a series of prints entitled ‘Relationships’ for a Mayflower 400 print exhibition that Tamar Valley Printmakers did in 2020. These Monoprints seek to explore the relationship between ourselves, the Atlantic and the importance of Cod. We exhibited again at the Theatre Royal Plymouth this Autumn 2022.
Cod stocks in the North Atlantic have been overfished nearly to extinction . Research shows that the fishing stock that remains is not recovering from this desimmation and there are fears that it never will. Cod fishing played a very important role in the development and success of the first colonies on the East Coast of America in the 18th and 19th centuries. The fishing lures I have used in the images are called jiggers and were made from lead in the 19th century onwards.
Here are my Monoprint series #1-3: Relationships
