‘Swimmers and jiggers’
This is a monotype exploring our relationship with the cod industry and the New World that celebrated the Mayflower 400 Event in 2020. The Monoprint is composed of several layers, each depicting a different element of the Mayflower journey’s impact.
The ‘swimmers‘ are ourselves, surviving, evolving. The ‘Jiggers‘ are the brass moulded lures that the fishermen used to catch Cod.
The Fish are Cod, the cod that has sustained Britain for hundreds of years and also help develop a New Nation, East coast USA.
In the background is the graph that should the decline of Cod stocks over the last 100 years.
