As a professional Printmaker I use various printmaking techniques to best describe the subject of an image, be it Etching, Drypoint, Linocut or Monoprint. I like to showcase individual species, drawing attention to their beauty, their personalities and in some cases their vulnerabilities. I often include some human element in my images to remind us of the symbiotic relationship we have with the natural world and of our responsibilities to treasure it in a fast changing world.

When I was a child, whether guddling in the rockpools at lowtide, or investigating the homes of insects in the hedgerows, there was a curiosity of the natural world. I graduated from Art college in 1990 with a degree in Environmental Sculpture which eventually led to a career in Landscape Design and Horticulture. In 2013 I reacquainted myself with Printmaking and began making work that reflected my lifelong passion with the natural world.

Inspiration from the Sea

I’m a printmaker that lives and works by the sea. I use diverse printing processes to reflect every day observations and my environmental concerns. My studio is very close to a much loved dog walking beach on the South East Cornish coast. I’m extremely fortunate to live and work so close to the ocean. I’m messy and a bit of a hoarder, so the studio is full of the flotsam and jetsam given up by the tide, pressed seaweed, an assortment of bones, strange objects and bags and bags of human detritus. This rich resource is the inspiration for many of my prints.

River Dart Calendar 2026

The River Dart Calendar Project 2026 showcases the work of 13 emerging printmakers, the beauty and diversity of the river and the organisations and user groups that utilise the river.

Each printmaker had to work with a user group or organisation connected to the River Dart that reflected one month in the calendar year. Part of the Brief was to spend time on the river with the group to learn more about their activity/organisation and how they feel about their relationship to the river. Their final image should reflect this experience as well as their own personal reflections on the River Dart and its surrounding landscapes.

When Sally Sutton and I selected our final 13 printmakers, we made sure we had an interesting mix of styles and techniques. We have really enjoyed watching the printmakers respond to their individual briefs and been delighted by the finished images, which are a wonderful collaboration between the printmaker, the Dart and the river users.

Dwell, By Simon Armitage, Illustrated by Beth Munro

Last September, I was approached by Faber and Faber publishing to illustrate poet laureate Simon Armitage’s newest collection.

Dwell explores the beautiful and fragile living spaces of creatures in the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall. Inspired by Heligans’ ambitious restoration project, where history and mystery coexist.

Illustrating this book pushed my art into new directions. It was a fantastic experience working with Faber and Faber and bringing the poems to life through my work.

The launch at Heligan was a lovely showcase of the book and all the hard work that I, the team, and Simon had put in.
